Brighouse Town with a 1-0 away win at Blyth Spartans on the Northumbria coast made it six games unbeaten and leapfrogged into 10th place in the table.
The 38th minute angled strike from in form winger Youssef Chentouf proved decisive but before that centre forward Romario Dunne was denied twice by Spartans’ keeper Callum Dobson who also denied Chentouf some six minutes before he scored.
Town went in at the break comfortably on top against a youngish side and with a new manager in Marc Nash.
The Spartans came out for the second half and were straight on the attack but were denied at the near post by Town keeper Michael Acquah.
Town could have increased their lead when Nathan Curtis went clear in the box but he was denied and the chance was cleared.
Centre-back and captain Harvey Booth and his defence denied the home side several chances and Town with fresh legs on in the shape of Kane Richardson, Mohssen Mohamed and Kevy Tarangadzo kept the home side from equalising when in fact Town , who hit a post with 10 minutes left and claimed to have had a shot gone over the line, could have won the game more clearly.
Town’s management of Grant Black and Ricky Ravenhill were delighted with the performance and also seeing the good run continue.
On Saturday Town host East Division League leaders Redcar Athletic (3.03pm) and are running a promotion to try and get their biggest crowd of the season. With the international break Leeds Utd. Huddersfield Town and Bradford City are not playing and FC Halifax Town are away at Sutton Utd so Town are letting their season ticket holders and those who follow other clubs in for £7 and £5 as against the normal £10 and £7.
There were no injuries reported from the Blyth game and only Yemen international squad member Mohssen Mohamed will be missing and striker Jordan Preston is fit to resume.
