Match Report – Brighouse Town 0-3 Lincoln United
Goals from Kane Wilkes, Connor Brown, and Max Baker see Lincoln United take the game away from Brighouse in the closing stages. Some better composure in front of goal would have seen a heavier scoreline, but it was a comfortable all-in-all for the visitors throughout.
Jack Varley hit well over right footed from the edge of ‘D’ on 14 minutes, before five minutes later the hosts had, what was for most of the game the closest to opening the scoring. A ball from the left on halfway hit diagonally found Captain Nathan Curtis who fired across Lincoln Goalie Heath Richardson but wide of his far post.
Opposition Captain, and former Brighouse man Jack Dando knocked a ball up the line to Connor Brown, but from the narrow angle hit straight at Michael Acquah. Andy Janssen also had a shot loop off a Brighouse Defender that was gathered soon after.
The hosts ended the half via a tame curling effort from Curtis with options in and around the box.
Lincoln began the second with an in-swinging corner to Acquah’s near post that needed punching away, with a short corner routine soon after needing cleared off the line. A low ball from the left five minutes later from Max Baker was missed centrally on the slide by Andy Janssen.
Just after the hour and it was Lincoln again asking the questions, but a 63rd minute free kick from Owen Vincent from just left and outside of the box was curled to the far post, away from the wall, but also wide of bar and post. He swung a cross into the box soon after, but too high for attacking heads in the box.
Substitute Kane Wilkes created Lincoln’s best chance up to that point when he cut in from the right and left footed whipped a shot just wide of the post. The visitors also had the ball in the net soon after, but a flag was raised for offside. They also had a free header over as well.
On 78 minutes the deadlock was broken; Owen Vincent put a ball through to the left of the 18-yard box, Acquah appeared to bring Connor Brown down, but Wilkes was on hand to tap into an empty net. A turn-and-finish from Connor Brown doubled said lead 7 minutes later.
In the last two minutes of the match Brighouse had a corner beat the Goalie but cleared away up the other end out to the right, a low cross came in and Max Baker firing into the roof of the net at the far post to wrap up the victory for the Lincolnshire side.

What a hectic seven days have just past at Brighouse Town with the departure of their entire coaching staff, the appointment of a player-caretaker manager and two defeats on the road.
Relegation-threatened Town said their goodbyes to manager Grant Black, assistant manager Ricky Ravenhill and coaches Danny Frost and James Dudgeon following last Wednesday’s 2-0 away defeat at Dunston.
All four resigned and it left the club just Thursday and Friday to sort a manager and a squad to travel to Pontefract Collieries.
In stepped club captain Derry Robson, 30, who opted to be on the bench for the game and look at his players and also form an idea of a team for this past Tuesday ‘s trip to Blyth Town.
Robson has been in the NPL for the past ten seasons with the likes of Bridlington Town, Pontefract Collieries, Ossett United, Cleethorpes Town, Belper Town and Goole.
He witnessed a 4-0 defeat but his charges played well against a team on a roll and they could have a goal or two themselves with a little more luck.
Town’s director of football Charlie Tolley put out a thank you to Grant Black and his staff last Thursday morning.
“Thank you for all your hard work and contributions and we wish you all the very best in your future endeavours.”
Following a 90th minute incident in the game at Dunston goalkeeper Michael Acquah was sent off and has received a one match ban.
He played at Pontefract Colls and Blyth Town on Tuesday but on Saturday he will be replaced by the experienced Daniel Montgomery who played with Robson at Ossett United and has been with several other quality clubs in his career.
Saturday’s match will once again be named Gillys Game – the Pete Gill Celebration of Life game and it is being sponsored by Rastrick Dental Surgery and its new owner Chris Anderson Jnr.
Town’s new boss has also been talking to five other players and expects to have several over the line by Friday.
The hone game with Lincoln United last month that was abandoned in the 49th minute through an outage of power to the floodlights will replayed this next Wednesday (7.45) and admission is free.
The club are hoping those attending will consider a donation and throw some money in buckets and have a ticket on the Golden Goal and the Half Time Draw.

decisive and democratically agreed decision process regarding the clubs’ activities going forward.

the previous management team. However, under the stewardship of Derry Robson we will strive to
achieve a positive end to the season.
The Club is launching a new 300 Club Draw to replace the existing 200 Club. We would encourage
everyone to join to support Brighouse Town going forward.

sponsored by T L Garden Services.

From going 1-0 up after seventeen minutes
Town ended up with a minute of added on time left losing 2-1 to visitors Garforth Town.
And that wasn’t the only bad news when fighting relegation as they also had manager Grant Black sent off midway through the second half and then in injury time defender Sam Pashley and new co-assistant coach James Dudgeon also saw red.
Pashley and Dudgeon were livid as assistant referee Nicholas Greenwood did not raise his flag for a blatant offside in four minutes of added on time which gave the visitors the winner and three valuable points.
The visitors started the brighter of the two but the hosts struck first blood.
After Garforth keeper Harry Flatters short and low out wide, Rhys Plater steadied the ball and then fed Romario Dunne to find the target and put his side ahead.
Shortly after it needed a strong left hand from keeper Michael Acquah to deny the visitors.
In the 55th minute Town could have made the game possibly safe but a header from a corner hit the post and was cleared.
Thirteen minutes later Garforth were level when Acquah and his defence failed to deal with a ball into the six yard box and Owen Marshall tapped home.
It looked as Town were looking at draw and still a valuable point when Garforth substitute Eddie Kettlewell in an offside position easily beat Acquah from a cross out on the right .
The home players rushed across to the ‘liner’ to register their anger and as a result Pashley was sent off and then after the final whistle Dudgeon was following his manager into the referees notebook.
On Saturday Town travel to runaway League leaders RedcarAthletic who won 8-0 at Ashington last Saturday.
They could well be without the much travelled Ethan Bojang who on Monday evening was talking to Pontefract Collieries.
However skipper Harvey Booth will be back in contention after he cleared his three match ban last Saturday.
He has been allowed to play a level down at Golcar United to keep match
fit when their matches were on
On Wednesday night, March 4 Town will be at home to Lincoln United (7.45).
They have also re-arranged the outstanding Blyth Town away game for Tuesday, March 17.
