New business for Town sponsor: Fleet Finders Ltd will help local community.

BRIGHOUSE TOWN AFC major sponsor Luke Larvin, Managing Director of Elland-based Full Circle Asset Finance Limited, has successfully set up set up another company which has now been trading just over a year and is booming. Fleet Finders Limited supplies brand new light commercial vehicles to businesses throughout the UK. Luke’s explains; “We are set up in our Elland offices, but we don’t hold any vehicle stock here. All our stock is held at port and gets delivered directly to the end user. This enables us to keep our overheads low and keep the cost of the van low for the end user”.
Luke is a big believer in giving back to the local community and says: “We are looking to support the local Elland Food Bank as best we can, which is based at Southgate Methodist Church, Langdale St, Elland and we will be giving annual donations in support, with this one being the first of many. In doing this we not only meet our aim of supporting the local community but also being able to help those less fortunate in life.”

Brighouse Echo Sport – Town News by Dave Parker

Bereft of their two first choice experienced midfielders Brighouse Town came from behind twice to pull off a home 2-2 draw with improving Lincoln United.

Skipper Tom Haigh is slowly recovering from an ankle injury and Corey Gregory was serving the first of his two-match ban for a sending off at Consett the previous week. Loanee Sam Drake and the ubiquitous talented teenager Sam Reed more than covered and played their part in a second half spell that could and should have brought the possible winner.

Lincoln’s Tobias Liversidge (correct), easily their man of the match in attack, opened the scoring for them in the 18th minute after a couple of concerted attacks. Town shook themselves in to attack mode and started the take the game to their visitors and in the 30th minute were rewarded with a superb equaliser from Jack Boyle who curled the ball into the net from some 20 yards out on the right.

However, Lincoln went into the lead in the first added minute of added time through a controversially awarded corner. Middlesbrough referee Matthew East gave the corner despite the visiting forward edging the ball over the deadball line. From the corner kick, Callum Foster wasn’t picked up in the box and his strike beat Brett Souter to make it 2-1.

After some end-to-end play in the opening ten minutes of the second period Town started to take command and it was only the commandeering presence of centre back A J Adelekan who kept the locals at bay. Jack Normanton and Javelle Clarke were raiding down the flanks and balls were coming in for Laurence Sorhaindo and Jack Boyle. From one such Normanton run down the right and cut into the box he delivered a rocket of a cross which Lincoln’s first half scorer Foster could only head into his own net.

This equalising score really lifted the crowd and the team and Normanton, before he was substituted by Alex King, beat three defenders and lined himself up for a shot on goal but unfortunately, he blasted over the top of the bar.

King took up where Normanton left off and put in some great work, including one pinpoint cross to the head of Sorhaindo, but unfortunately, he headed straight to Jack Steggles who parried out only for Clarke with an open goal to blast the ball against the crossbar before Lincoln cleared the danger.

Sorhaindo, substitute Zeph Thomas, Clarke and King all tried in vain to get the winner but were denied and then near the end Town survived a possible own goal of their own making when Mohammed Ibrahim, trying to clear off balance, headed the ball against Souter’s near post before it went for a corner.

Town have gone three games unbeaten as they look to an away game at Pontefract Collieries tomorrow night (Friday) (7.45) should the ground conditions permit. With severe night-time frosts in the forecast all eyes from both clubs will be on how the pitch survives or doesn’t!

Manager Vill Powell, who was disappointed with the draw after his side had played ever so well the previous week in a 4-1 win at Consett, is hopeful his skipper Haigh can make it back into contention at Pontefract and he has no other injury worries from the Lincoln game.

Town have lost their physio of the past two and a half seasons, Emily Harnden to a full-time post with League 2 club Harrogate Town. She is helping the club to be covered while they have a replacement, and they also have a trainee in Charlotte Biggs from Queensbury more than helping out.

Saturday week Town travel to the outskirts of Newcastle to take on third-placed Hebburn Town who they lost 3-1 to in the first game of the season as all clubs hit the second half of their 38-match home and away programme. Town will be running a coach which will leave the Dusty Miller at Hove Edge at 10.45am.

The NPL League have confirmed Town’s Boxing Day home derby game with Ossett United will kick off at 1pm.

The players of both sides, match officials and former colleagues of Peter Gill, who died last Friday at the age of 62, held a minute’s applause ahead of the Lincoln game.

The former Town player, who also played Brighouse Sunday League football with the Junction and Top Club and was a member at Rastrick Cricket Club, was always present when Rastrick CC sponsored a game, which ironically, they were doing last Saturday, and was a very popular figure in the Brighouse and Rastrick sporting community. An obituary will follow in the Echo ahead of Christmas.

Town Main Sponsor Quickslide, Wins Fabricator of the Year at G Awards

This past Friday, members of our team travelled from Yorkshire to London to attend the G22 Awards, where we were nominated for two industry awards. We’re incredibly proud to announce that we’ve returned home with the Fabricator of the Year award! The G Awards are well respected and some of the most prestigious awards in our industry, and we feel honoured to be presented with the top accolade!

Our entry titled ‘How Quickslide uses technology to become a role model fabricator’ concentrated on our determination to develop and implement digital solutions to modernise our business and drive customer service right from initial customer enquiry, through production to delivery.

We have an amazing team, and our entry highlights the importance of every single member of staff.

Manufacturers of windows and other glass companies across the UK compete for these awards, and Quickslide was up against six other finalists for specifically the ‘Fabricator of The Year’ title on Friday. Our dedication and efforts over the past 12 months paid off and resulted in Quickslide bringing home a glittering glass trophy!

Our team were thrilled to accept the award on the night!

The win does not just represent Quickslide’s success, it also celebrates our staff, customers, suppliers, and industry friends who support us. The number of entries this year was record-breaking high, which only amplifies the importance of the amazing and award-worthy work our team continue to carry out.

After being presented with the award, our team had a great night celebrating our win alongside many of the industry’s key suppliers, manufacturers, and installers at the 5-Star Intercontinental Hotel in London. The night was hosted by renowned comedian Hugh Dennis, who fabulously managed to crack a few classic double-glazing jokes before presenting the winners with their awards.

What are the G Awards?

The G Awards have been recognising and rewarding excellence in the glass and glazing industry for 18 years and are well regarded as the most prestigious industry award a company like Quickslide can hope to achieve. They recognise people in all areas of the industry, from manufacturers to installers, glass companies to prominent industry individuals.

What does this mean for Quickslide?

While Quickslide represent outstanding manufacturing and our aim for the future is continuous improvement in any event, the Fabricator of the Year award proves our excellence. We’ve worked hard to be worthy of this award but that certainly doesn’t mean that now is the time to rest on our laurels. We’ll continue to innovate and develop to future-proof our business. There’s always room for improvement!

Brighouse Echo Sport – Town News by Dave Parker

Brighouse Town bounced back after a disappointing defeat to lowly Long Eaton United with two tremendous victories away to Consett last Saturday and then away to Bradford Park Avenue on Monday night in the West Riding County FA Cup second round.

High up on the Durham hills, Town, after settling down, played their hosts off the park led by man of the match Lawrence Sorhaindo with two goals and two assists.

He put his side ahead in the 21st minute after a sharp piece of football with the ball being zipped about until it landed at the feet of last season’s leading goalscorer who made no mistake hitting the target from some 12 yards out. Jack Boyle, back on form, banged home the second on 40 minutes and there was time for a third on 43 minutes after a home defender had `saved’ a blistering shot from Elliot Harrison with his arm which saw the ball head over the crossbar. Middlesbrough referee Liam Smith pointed to the spot, and up stepped Sorhaindo to beat keeper Ross Coombe and make it 3-0. However, the home defender only got a caution as the referee said after the game, he didn’t deem it a goalscoring opportunity!

The Steelmen were given a lifeline after 51 minutes when Town’s acting skipper Corey Gregory was sent off for hands ball in the six-yard box with Brett Souter beaten. He was given a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity and Town were down to 10 men.

Zak Atkinson just managed to beat Souter with his spot kick which made it 3-1.

Town, knowing they had a long time to defend that lead, soon substituted wideman Javelle Clarke with utility player Sam Drake and manager Vill Powell worked his two remaining subs for fresh legs-Josh Grant and Callum Charlton- well as Town soaked up pressure and then counter-attacked with purpose.

Town went on to make the game well and truly safe in the second minute of added time as Sorhaindo, turned and broke free before providing Charlton with a sublime ball and he did the rest to make it 4-1.

On Monday night in the fog Town took on the National League North side at the Horsfall Stadium and went a goal down in the 15th minute, keeper Jamie Hassall saved an initial shot, but Zak Kersey followed in to score.

Town took up the cudgel for an equaliser but faced a very competent goalkeeper in Liam Hall and were constantly denied. Their equaliser did not come until the 57th minute when Alex King raced clear from just over the halfway line and then beat Hall with a deft finish to level matters.

Town did have their chances to grab a winner with Zeph Thomas going near and Charlton before referee Joe Moss blew for full time.

In the penalty shoot-out Town went into a 3-0 lead thanks to Gregory, Thomas and Clarke before former Town player Eddie Church converted his spot kick for BPA.

Substitute Myron Gibbons made it 4-1 to send Town through to the next round.

Town have injury and suspension problems ahead of Saturday’s home game with Lincoln United at the earlier kick-off time of 1.00 and in a game sponsored by Rastrick Cricket Club.

Skipper Tom Haigh, who missed the Consett and Bradford games with a swollen ankle bone which is not broken or chipped after an x-ray, is very doubtful and utility player Elliot Harrison picked up a badly bruised calf in the first half at Park Avenue and was substituted at half-time.

Gregory was handed a two-match ban by the FA on Monday after his dismissal at Consett and will miss the Lincoln game and Friday week’s visit to Pontefract Collieries.

Town had an approach from Cleethorpes Town for centre-back Matthew Nebard but he turned it down, saying he wanted to stay at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium, and bottom club Tadcaster Albion came in at the weekend for wide player and defender Callum Charlton, but manager Powell says the Halifax-based player is very much part of his plans and he won’t be going anywhere.

Town have been drawn at home in the third round to leading Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One club Campion from Manningham, Bradford on a date to be decided.

FC Halifax Town will play their second round West Riding County FA tie with Albion Sports at Brighouse Town’s ground on Wednesday, December 7 (7.45). The Shaymen tried to switch from the Shay to Farsley Celtic’s ground at Throstle Nest but the National League North side wouldn’t agree to the proposal and so they turned to Brighouse who are pleased to host the tie and help their neighbours out.

Brighouse Echo Sport – Town News by Dave Parker

Brighouse Town came down to earth with a big bump after their 6-0 triumph over Pontefract Collieries last Monday as Long Eaton United beat them 4-1 last Saturday in their third home game on the trot.

In what could only be described as an inept first half display, they trailed 4-1 at the break and it could have been more with a disallowed goal for offside and Josh Dacre saving a certain `goal’ on the line-the ball ending up in goalkeeper James Hassall’s hands in front of him.

However, they did produce a far better second half performance in which they hit the post, the crossbar, the angle above the side netting and striker Laurence Sorhaindo missed connecting with a perfect cross in the six-yard box.

Right winger Rod Orlando-Young, a thorn in Town’s side all afternoon along with centre forward Ben Hutchinson and left winger James Walker,

opened the scoring for his side in the 13th minute after rounding Hassall and netting. Tom Cursons doubled their lead five minutes later after wrong-footing Hassall.

Walker made it 3-0 after twisting and turning in the box and then unleashing a powerful shot to beat Hassall.

Town pulled one back on the stroke of half-time as Sorhaindo trapped and then squared to Javelle Clarke to make it 3-1. However, Town did not see the half out as Cursons, two minutes into added time, made it 4-1.

Town did come out in the second half and battle, but they just couldn’t find the net and ended up losing to the Derbyshire side who are still a place below them on goal difference.

On Saturday Town travel to League newcomers Consett (3.0) who are two places above them and have five victories and five draws for their 20 points.

Keeper Brett Souter, despite being bodily fit from his long lay-off, has missed the last two games with flu but could comeback into contention.

There could be a return to the squad over the weekend for the returning Josh Grant, either at Consett or at the Horsfall Stadium, Buttershaw, for the second-round tie in the West Riding County Cup with Bradford Park Avenue on Monday (7.45).

Striker Myron Gibbons has gone out on dual reg to Doncaster club Rossington Main and wide man Alex King is on dual-reg at Dinnington.

Talented centre-back Aiden Walker, who injured a knee three weeks ago, is around a week to 10 days off being fit according to manager Vill Powell.

There is a coach leaving the Dusty Miller at 10.45 and the cost is £10.00

Today (Thursday) the club’s Academy side is at home to Ossett United Academy weather and ground conditions permitting (12.00).

On Saturday there is a trial match at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium (1.0) for U-23 players who want to progress into non-league semi-professional football.

A win dedicated to our loyal supporters.

Well, what a difference one result can make, especially when it’s as emphatic as a 6-0 win!! It’s fair to say we were desperate for a win after the recent run of results we have had, and in fact, any sort of win would have serviced, but to score six goals against 5th placed Pontefract without reply and have six different scorers has not just given the players a boost, it has given everyone associated with Brighouse Town a real lift.
I am especially pleased that our loyal band of supporters who turned out on a foggy, miserable evening to support the lads were able to enjoy that performance. I have to say, despite the scoreline, this wasn’t an easy game as I think Pontefract are one of the most aggressive sides in this division and compete for every ball. The quality of our finishing quelled some of the fire in their bellies, especially in the second half, and it was a joy to just sit back and enjoy the lads play some lovely quick attacking football and the goals fly in.
After mentioning the support for the club, I think the combination of the current cost of living crisis and our recent drop in form, has unfortunately led to a negative effect on our attendances, which is understandable. However, with Premier and Championship clubs having a break for the World Cup, it might be an opportunity for supporters of those clubs in the local area to come down to the Yorkshire Payments Stadium and lend their support to Brighouse Town. So, if any of you reading this have friends or family who fall into this category, I would politely ask you to point them in our direction if they are looking for some entertainment on a Saturday afternoon.
We are especially looking at our home game against Lincoln on Sat 3rd Dec. If all goes to plan in the World Cup, England should be playing in the last 16 that day with a 3pm KO. We have therefore arranged for our game to kick off at 1pm in time for everyone to be able to get in the clubhouse and watch England hopefully make it through to the quarter-finals after Brighouse Town have secured another three points against Lincoln!!!

Thank you again for your support.
