Hartlepool loanee Josh Donaldson wrought havoc down the Dunston left to give his side a 4-1 home victory over Brighouse Town last Saturday. He scored a hat-trick and even had a hand in the first goal that came from a corner he forced after just four minutes. Town had no answer to the former Newcastle United academy product and it would have been interesting to have seen the FA Trophy first round outcome and scoreline without him on the field of play.
After Tom Devitt had opened their scoring from the corner, Town grew into the game and were rewarded after 31 minutes with an equaliser when Rhys Plater went into the box on the right and then squared across for Harvey Booth to fire home.
Two goals from Donaldson in the last few minutes before half-time knocked the stuffing out of the visitors.
Town in the hot conditions did not give up the fight and were only killed off with 15 minutes to go when Donaldson completed his hat-trick.
Black’s squad was depleted early Saturday morning when midfielder Derry Robson phoned to say his wife had gone into labour. That came on top of experienced centre back Kevy Tarangadzo going into hospital two days earlier to have his appendix removed.
Ex-Bradford City fullback Curtis Peters currently suspended has also been into hospital this past week after being bitten on a calf by an insect while on a Three Peaks charity run. Both he and striker Danny Edwards still have to sit out this Saturday’s home game with Newcastle side Heaton Stannington (3pm) with the last of their three match bans.
Player-coach Danny Frost, injured at Consett(ankle), is hoping to be fit for selection and Saturday will see a home debut for Rotherham v United loanee Kane Richardson. In the meantime midfielder Jack Mason has been signed from Emley.
Towns injured goalkeeper Michael Acquah is back in training along with his brother Isaac who hasn’t been on the team sheet all season.
