Brighouse Town suffered another defeat on the road last Saturday when going down to Durham club Consett 3-0.In their six league games so far they have only won the first game of the season against Blyth Town and then lost four and drawn one at home to Silsden.At Consett, Town were 3-0 down after 28 minutes and at this point manager Grant Black substituted both his centre-backs Marty Nebard and Harvey Booth .
From theron in his charges did not let in another goal but neither did they score one.
Consett were on the scoreboard after just four minutes when Donny Holdsworth beat keeper Shea Callister to a through ball and set up Isaac Walker to side foot in. Consett doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when Calvin Smith’s cross fell to Matty Todd, and the teenager finished at the back post.
Town’s best chance came after 26 minutes when Rhys Plater beat the offside trap but Consett keeper Harry Moss stood up well and made the save.
Two minutes later and it was 3-0 as Marco Costello thundered a header against the bar from a corner and when the ball fell to Walker at the edge of the box he fired home. Town upped their game in the second half but failed to find the target.Town gave debuts to Barnsley Ziggy Kozluk and Rotherham United midfielder Kane Richardson and from the bench player-coach Danny Frost made his first appearance of the season.
Following the game NCEL club Campion moved quickly to sign Nebard who leaves Town after two lengthy spells.
On Saturday, Town have another trip to the north east when they take on Gateshead club Dunston in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy. There will be no extra time and should the sides be level on 90 minutes then penalties will decide the outcome.
A coach will leave the Dusty Miller, Hove Edge at 11am.
Town’s suspended striker Danny Edward’s has gone on loan to his former club Knaresborough Town as he sits out this Saturday and the following weeks home game with Newcastle club Heaton Stannington. Fellow suspended player, fullback Curtis Peters is having treatment for an abductor injury received in the Ossett Inited game two weeks ago.
