After a month of squad building and pre-season friendlies, Brighouse Town get down to the serious business on Saturday with a home tie in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA up with Frickley Athletic the visitors (3pm).
Town completed their pre-season programme against opposition from the NPL Premier Division and lost both games but the players put in more than satisfactory shifts
Last Tuesday evening they lost 3-0 to Stocksbridge Park Steels and then on the Saturday 2-0 to Gainsborough Trinity.
Manager Grant Black has in the meantime signed several more players including midfielder Mohesser Mohamed 20, who has recently played for Chesterfield, Doncaster City and Pontefract Collieries, Bolton Mahwedza ,21, a defender previously with Rotherham United and Liversedge, Garvey Scott a defender who was with Mansfield Town, Elliott Clarke,18, a defender who was with Bradford City and Harvey Booth
a utility player who was with Nostell Priory.
Also board are Joshua McKiernon,27, formerly with Albion Sports,Silsden and Eccleshill United and Fermin Sankoh-Fernandez,25, another midfielder who was with Emley last season v and prior to that with Dutch side GVVV Veenendaal.
Town’s opponents on Saturday opened up their NCEL Premier Division campaign with a 2-0 home win over Albion v Sports
It is two seasons since Town played the South Yorkshire side with them having been relegated
On Saturday week Town open their East Division season with a home game against Blyth Town (3pm) and then have to travel to the north east on the Tuesday night to take on Newton Aycliffe (7.45).
