Brighouse Town over the past week have lost 1-0 at Worsborough Bridge but drew 1-1 at home to Brigg Town through a first half goal from Derry Robson and have acquired a high profile assistant manager.
On a hot afternoon players took two mid-half breaks for water and gave their all in what was an entertaining game.
Over the course of the game both sides hit the woodwork-posts and crossbar- but it was Town who took a 1-0 half-time lead. The Lincolnshire side equalised midway through the second half.
Town’s pre-season friendlies continued last Tuesday night with a home game against local NCEL Premier Division side Golcar Utd. Town’s strong first half saw them lead 3-0 at the break. Golcar quickly pulled a goal back at the start of the second half, but there was no further scoring in a competitive and entertaining game.Town’s manager Grant Black was pleased with the performance ahead of this past Tuesday’s home game with Golcar United, He also revealed he was near to finalising an 18-man squad although he was always looking with his staff for a quality player if one came up.
On Saturday, Brighouse travel to play Maltby Main for a 1pm KO at the Queens United Stadium S63 6FP. Next Tuesday night, July 22 (7.15), Town are at home to newly promoted Stocksbridge Park Steels.
In the meantime, Town have seen the departure of assistant manager Darren Young who has stated he is too busy with his day job and also must spend time with his family.
He has been replaced by Ricky Ravenhill, 44, the former Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town, Darlington, Notts County, Bradford City and Northampton Town midfielder.
Recently, Ravenhill has been manager at Mickleover Sports and also on the staff at Buxton. He was with Black at Barnsley Academy and they have kept in touch. Ravenhill’s son Liam, a former Doncaster player, is now with Mattlock Town.
Town also look near to securing the services of former Huddersfield Town Academy goalkeeper Michael Acquah following his return north from Haringey. Acquah has also since his loan spell from the Terriers at Brighouse played with Sheffield FC.
His younger brother Isaac, also a former Huddersfield loanee with Town last term, has also re-signed for the squad.
Their elder brother Emile has just signed a three-year contract with Dundee after two seasons as a striker for Barrow.
Town hold their AGM in the Clubhouse at the Heffernan Utilities Stadium on Wed 23rd July at 6pm – All Members welcome.
