For the second time this season Brighouse Town went out on penalties in last Saturday’s Isuzu FA Trophy. They had back in August lost 5-3 on penalties to Barnoldswick Town after drawing 2-2 after a replay and then in the second national event they lost 5-3 again after coming back from 1-0 down to equalise.
Disappointment then yet again for the Town fans but they are seeing a side develop and one that looks much stronger and skilful to more than hold their own in the East Division of the NPL where they sit in fifth place.
Clitheroe led 1-0 for most of the game after Veron Parny had put them in the lead in the first quarter of the game. Town had their chances but were up against a good keeper in Hakan Burton.
Miles Storey missed a chance for Clitheroe to double their lead midway through the second half before debutant Romario Dunne, who hails from Warrington but has been playing for AFC Sudbury, won the ball some 30 yards out and then advanced on goal to rifle a shot past Burton.
Town had a good chance to go ahead when Burton made a rare error and spilled the ball but were too slow to take advantage.
Substitute Ezio De Santis was also just beaten to a cross by Burton as five minutes of added time was shown.
Town are now without a game this Saturday following the defeat in the FA Cup to Barnoldswick and will next play on Tuesday night at Emley (7.45) in the re-arranged game from August Bank Holiday Monday when goalkeeper Kyle Trenerry was badly injured. Admission on the night will be free for all spectators.
Town were also been left without a game for the following Saturday, September 21st following the defeat to Clitheroe in the FA Trophy and their League opponents, Belper Town progressing in the Trophy but asked Liversedge-out of the Trophy also- if they can visit them on the 21st instead of going to Claybourn on Tuesday, October 22, and that has now been agreed. Town will also go to Belper now on Tuesday, October 15 for the re-arranged game from this coming Saturday.
