Brighouse Town U14 girls signed off a great season last Saturday by beating a spirited Rothwell side 4-3 in the West Riding League cup at the Boddington Football Hub in Leeds.
A great Nieve volley put Town in front, Rothwell drew level with a superb direct free kick. a quick fire brace form Nieve again and Summer saw Town going in at half time 3-1 up, early in the second half Rothwell pulled one back from a great set piece again, Town responded when Katie drilled a ball home from a corner to make it 4-2
Rothwell pulled another back with a great finish to make it a nervy end to the game, Town were far from their best on the day but it’s a testament to their character that they have the ability to grind out results.
The league was a much more straightforward affair, winning the 1st division by 13 points with 4 games to go, superbly coached by Emma Dobson and Richard Crowther after a tough summer last year with 3 players moving on to high standards, a number of quality new players coming in bedded in quickly and the girls got off to a flyer in the 1st league game of the season beating the league champions Bradford City 5-0 from there they spent the rest of the season top of the league with their only disappointment coming in the semi final of the County Cup losing 3-1 to Tingley Ath.
The girls will now have a well earned rest before starting 6 weeks of strength and conditioning training at Ironside gym in Brighouse in June.
