As previously announced, Corey Gregory, Mohammed Ibrahim and Brett Souter have all left the club and we thank them for their services.

A new era begins at Brighouse Town AFC as we welcome back to the club Cara Mahoney who has been named as Player Manager for the club’s newly formed women’s section.

Cara is tasked with bringing back women’s open-age first-team football to Brighouse Town AFC. Joint
Chairs – Chris Lister & James Howard – expressed their delight at the news that Brighouse had now
formerly got a women’s team fully integrated into the football club and that Cara had agreed to take
control of this.

Cara who played for the club for 7 seasons before joining Altofts is excited to build a section to include U18s, U23s and Open age teams to ensure all who wish to play football at Brighouse Town can do so in a positive, nurturing environment that will be built on team values of trust, transparency, and togetherness.

Cara spoke with passion saying “It’s great to be back with Brighouse Town again, they are a special community club close to my heart that has developed a thriving girls’ junior set-up with an ethos of kids being coached and developed to enjoy playing passing football. I’m excited by the prospect of coaching and playing football with these young girls who are the future of our club. It’s also fabulous to have the backing of local businesses such as CP Media and JTD whose backing means we are in good shape even before we kicking off the new 23/24 season”

Striker Jack Boyle and defender Sam Reed mopped up the four major honours at last Saturday evening’s Annual Presentation Night for Brighouse Town held in a packed clubhouse.

Former Huddersfield Town and Clyde forward Boyle collected on top of the Golden Boot award for 12 League goals but also the Players’ Player of the Year award and also the Fan’s Player of the Year award.

Both the management and the players say `Boyley’ is great to have in one’s dressing room besides having him with his skills and goalscoring ability out on the pitch.

Teenager Reed collected the Manager’s Player of the Year award and deservedly so for his very consistent performances.

Since the turn of the year Reed, 19, has been training full time with Sheffield Wednesday and playing in their U-23 side and then turning out for every league game for Town.

Both he and his father, Stacy, the club’s assistant coach, revealed he is looking at signing a contract with Sheffield Wednesday on July 1.

However, the type of contract depends on whether Wednesday stay in League 1 or overturn a four goal deficit tonight (Thursday) against Peterborough United following the first leg of the League 1 play-off last Thursday night and then head to Wembley for the final that will decide who is going into the Championship .

Reed is contracted at Town and the club are more than likely to be looking for a transfer fee and a sell on clause included.

Town’s senior goalkeeper Brett Souter is being released from his contract after seeing out the season at Selby Town.

Teenager Jamie Hassall was the first choice for the lasty two months of the season as Town’s custodian with FC Halifax Town academy player Charlie English on the bench.

English on Monday afternoon played in goal for FC Halifax Town for 25 minutes against Scottish club Hibernian at the Shay in a behind closed doors friendly to give Town some game time ahead of their FA Trophy Final at Wembley on Sunday (4.0pm) against Gateshead. English will also be working on the sacred Wembley turf ahead of the game with Town’s keeper Sam Johnson. FC Halifax won the game 4-2 and then the Scottish players moved on to Elland Road for a game on the Tuesday with Leeds United’s U23 side.

Brighouse Town manager Vill Powell will be at the game to see his cousin Aaron Martin and former Town player play for Gateshead.

The Clubman of the Year award went to long serving former player, coach and committeeman Mark Booth and now the man charged with running the girls age groups at the club.

Manager Powell announced his skipper Tom Haigh, who started with the club aged 15, has now made 249 senior appearances and on the first game of the new season an award will be made to him to mark his 250th wearing the orange and black of Town.

Also on the same night the awards were also made to the U-16, U-18 and U-23 sides.

In the U-16s coached by Mark Ellis the Manager’s award went to Harvey Waddington-Hirst, Players’ Player Michael Roberts, Parents Player Toby Currie and the Most Improved Player award to Ricky Njoku.

In the U-18s the Parents Player and Managers Player award went to Aaron Basra, while the Most Improved and Players Player award went to Daniel Imade.

There was just one award for the newly formed U23s, Lucas Grant taking the Players’ Player award.
