18/19th March 2023: Junior Teams in Action

We begin this weekend’s roundup with our Under 8s who had another brilliant team performance Saturday. Lots of hard work, communication, and good decisions with the ball. Credit to opponents Calverley who never gave up and got some reward for their effort in the last quarter as our girls started to tire.

Under 10 boys welcomed Crossley Juniors to the Yorkshire Payments Stadium. The team have, “…had a series of good performances that have built over the past few weeks” says 10s Coach Simon.

Both Under 14 boys teams remained unbeaten in away ties this weekend with the Lions drawing 2-2 at Almondbury thanks to goals from Jack Henry and Alfie W with three Players of the Match being Logan, Jake and Elliot. The Tigers won 6-2 at Norristhorpe thanks to a hat-trick from Will Tidswell-Smith and a goal apiece from Lucas Dawson, Alfie Brown, and Sam Peacock. Their Players of the Match were Annie Costello, Franco Rothwell, and Jack Scott.

The U14 Orange Girls lost a home double header versus a well organised Greetland side. Orange are still league leaders however and, “Will be looking to put the result behind them next week against Wigton Moor” says 14s Coach Emma Dobson.

The U15 Boys had a home JPL fixture running out 4-2 winners over Elsecar Main. The 15s took a 3-0 lead into half time thanks to a seven minute hat-trick from Max, goals coming in the 31st, 35th, and 38th minutes. Elsecar grabbed one back a minute into the second half and another on the hour mark. Brighouse however regained a two goal advantage when Archie netted in the 78th.

The 16s were also hosts, this in a JPL Cup game against near neighbours Halifax Town. The result a 1-1 draw the Cup is currently a group stage at present with the final game of said group next Saturday.

Both U16 Girls teams were also in action with a 5-1 home win over Marsden for one. Two goals for Millie and others from Katie-May, Thea, and Vaega with the goals for Brighouse.

Having won 5-3 last week versus Thackley Blizzards The U16 Girl Green travelled to Ryburn where there was no Cup ‘hangover’ for Brighouse. Two goals apiece for Fiona and Rhiannon with goals from Anaya and Mia ensured a 6-0 League victory. A dominant performance saw the girls 3-0 up at half time. As the pressure carried on into the second half the team added those further three goals. The 16s are back in Cup action this coming weekend.
