MATCH REPORT | Marske United 4-1 Brighouse Town

By David Foy

Tuesday 12th October 2021: Marske United 4-1 Brighouse Town

The Orange Army lost to a very impressive Marske side on Teesside.

The archetypal ‘game of two halves’ The Seasiders dominated the first half from start to finish.
Comfortable in the football and dangerous in attack Marske were good value for their 2-0 lead.

James Fairley fired a warning shot at Brett Souter’s near post which the ‘keeper turned round the post
well. However moments later in the 17th minute a clever through ball found Craig Gott who fired in off
the post for 1-0. The Seasiders carried on in the same vein working effectively down the left side also moving the ball in a slick manner at the back via the Goalie when needed. It came as no surprise for any of the 357 in attendance when United doubled their lead through Adam Wheatley. Brighouse failing to clear a corner properly saw Wheatley fire in close and central to goal. The Orange Army then lost Captain Danny Racchi to injury on the stroke of half time with him being
replaced by TJ Ibrahim.

The Second Half saw Brighouse come out with more purpose and intent forcing early corners and asking questions of a Marske team whom had only conceded two League goals all season. It was from a 51st minute Orange Army corner that Markse added a third however. On the counterattack they fed in Jane’s Fairley down the right side who fired into the near post for 3-0 to put the game out of side of the visitors. Three minutes later however a glimmer of hope was granted. Hard work from Shiraz Khan down the left was rewarded as he cut in and fired past Ryan Catterick in the Host’s goal. Previous goalscorer Adam Wheatley also had a hand in helping the ball into the back of the net.
Brighouse continued in with a proactive attitude, but Marske put the bed absolutely out of sight in the 89th minute when Glen Butterworth side footed in at the back post after the low cross was missed by two Brighouse players in the middle. As Manager Vill Powell told Brighouse Town TV at Full Time; ‘the best team won even though we were
the better team in the second half’.
