BRIGHOUSE TOWN with three successive wins in a week have shot into fourth place in the NPL Division One East table.
Bradford City have recalled their very talented U-19 captain and right-sided player Bobby Pointon, who has scored three goals, to send him to another club that plays at a higher level.
Pointon will be sorely missed and so would the other two be if they departed and it could potentially throw a promotion-seeking season now going well off the rails.
In the Carlton game Town took the lead in the 26th minute through acting captain Corey Gregory who latched on to a throw into the box and beat Mike Emery.
Town had to wait until the 60th minute for Qasim’s goal when substitute Jack Normanton whipped a ball in from the right and Qasim made no mistake in burying it in Emery’s net. Carlton were handed a lifeline in the 82nd minute when a push in the box led to a penalty which Aaron Opoku converted beyond the reach of Michael Roxburgh.
Superb interlinking play by the home side in the 90th minute saw Javelle Clarke link up with sub Myron Gibbons and he fed the impressive Normanton whose shot was parried back into the path of Clarke who made no mistake in finding the net.
in added time Town made it 4-1 when Pointon latched on to a ball over the top and then steered his shot round the outstretched arms of Emery.
Defenders Matt Nebard, Harrison Beeden, Aiden Walker and Sam Reed were, once again, well on top of their jobs.
Gregory was substituted in the 68th minute by Elliot Harrison as a precaution after a bad knock on the ankle he badly injured towards the end of last season.
Skipper Tom Haigh, although back for training last week from his two week holiday in Portugal, was left out of the starting line up and was not on the bench but will no doubt figure if the game does go ahead on Saturday at home to Worksop Town in the Preliminary round of the ISUZU FA Trophy (3.0).
Mid-table in Division One East, the Nottinghamshire club, backed by a local supermarket owner, have recruited some experienced player for this season.
Leading their forward line is David Hanson, the former Bradford City striker of 300 appearances, and they also have two players well known to FC Halifax Town fans in Josh Wilde and French-born Hamza Bencherif. Last Saturday in the FA Cup first round qualifying they beat Worcester Raiders 5-0.
Next Tuesday Town are planned to be away, but TBC, to Sheffield FC (7.45) who are in mid-table after a 4-1 win at Grimsby Borough last Saturday.
The following night Town’s Academy/U-19 side are away to Pontefract Collieries (7.0) in the first round qualifying of the FA Youth Cup, their reward for beating Tadcaster Albion last week 3-2 in the Preliminary round.
